The below is a string of emails from a very unprofessional ‘Captain’ Paul of Non Sea-Quitter.
The only changes I’ve made are to take out our entire last name, delete the email addresses, and formatted for easier reading. I added lines between the emails.
And, since this is my personal website, I’ve added my comments in red below.
I’m glad ‘Captain’ Paul showed his real personality in the emails.
When I spoke to him on the phone, he was very verbose about telling me just how wonderful he was, how great a teacher he was, how important his leadership was to the world of the Chesapeake bay.
You’ll see he reveals his real colors in this email string taken 100% from the emails I received – and have stored for future reference to send to those asking about him (I had told multiple people at Herrington Harbor North about booking lessons with him).
The very ironic thing is that we were just today going to book for the 11th. I’m SO thankful his emails hit our boxes this morning! Saved us a boatload of money (see what I did there?).
I welcome your comments if you’ve experiences this fella.
Start reading from the bottom.

And, in this final email, Paul again shows his true colors and again implies that his experience is the be all, end all….

I am not dependent on “luck” in my profession and don’t know if there is such a thing. I am dependent upon working hard and to serving my clients by providing value so they can learn from my experience rather than depending on learning from their own.

In this email, John simply responded that he is actually too busy. The best part though was that he wished him only Good Luck with his business…..

The below email was evidently triggered by the fact that John didn’t get back to him after ‘Captain’ Paul’s email of July 1.
Being extremely busy, John simply hadn’t had time to schedule for July 11.
But, THIS is the email I’m glad he sent. He shows his true colors here. His personality, or lack thereof, is front and center.
‘Captain’ Paul also implies that we have not made safe operation of our new boat a priority. We ONLY needed direction in docking a boat that is larger than our last. That was ALL we needed.
Finally, he implies that we bought the boat in November and waited until late June for training.
I told this ‘Captain’ that we had problems since we bought the boat. She hasn’t been anything but a dockuminium since November, never seeing anything but the water in our slip. She has been repaired, we thought.

I think you should hire someone else.
Clearly you are way too busy to really enjoy and use your boat and you have not made training and safe operation the priority that it needs to be.
I have done everything possible as a professional to be helpful and responsive and let you know that I value your time and value you as a potential client but you bought this boat in November and waited until Late June to seek training.
You then never responded to me after I did my best to schedule you because you are apparently too busy and have little regard for my time or schedule.
Sincerely

The below email was sent from ‘Captain’ Paul July 1.
John didn’t even SEE this email until July 5 due to working off site during the week. Evidently, the lack of response pissed off ‘Captain’ Paul’ as you will see in the above email.
You might also note, as we did, that his price changed from ‘$450’ with ‘$30’ travel. In my book, that’s $480.
Further in this email, the price is $470 with $16 paypal fee for a total of $486. I suppose he forgot about his travel time….

John I would hate to see you wait this long and July 30th is booked. I can do the Sunday July 11 session from 830am to 12noon.
My fee is $450 and travel to and from Herrington Harbor North is $30.
I would need to depart promptly at 12 noon and I do ask every client to communicate with me in advance so I can ensure that they know what to expect, that I can answer any questions, and we can get started quickly upon arrival.
All boats I come aboard will require a basic safety check–required gear, bilge pumps, batteries, general condition before we get underway. I also ask for a copy of insurance certification and registration or documentation.
You may have already sent this to me along with other information, but if not, please do so.
I will confirm this date and time upon receiving full payment in advance to me via Paypal using my email paul@nonseaquitter.com in the amount of $470 plus $16 in paypal fees for a total of $486.
Thank you,Paul FoerNon

In this email, John clearly states that he is losing 2 weeks in July so scheduling is difficult. He also explains that we really need knowledge of controls on the new (to us) boat.

My next available date for a weekday afternoon would be Friday, July 30th. I’m losing two weeks in July for a training class and work travel to California.
I’ve probably been in and out of this marina at least 100 times over the last 17 years.
I can put a single prop boat anywhere I want, I just need to convert that knowledge to the existing controls on this boat.
I’d like to keep the 11th if possible, but if that doesn’t work then it will have to be the afternoon of the 30th. Probably start time at 1pm.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks! John

So, this starts the email string. I had contacted ‘Captain’ Paul on the phone during this week of June 30. I asked that he and John do the scheduling as John’s work is very busy while I am retired.
He sounds nice enough here, right? Read on welcome viewer….

Hello John
Sunday July 11 is available only for a 1/2 day session from 830 to 12pm but I could easily get booked for ca tour. I do advise that weekdays are preferable due to less crowds and marina traffic and activity. Is there any way we could choose a weekday or weekday afternoon/ evening while the days are long? Thanks Paul Foer
